IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Classes:

  • In the State of Louisiana, in order to receive a learner's permit, any student age 14 years & 9 months to 17 year olds, who will be in the 8th grade or above by the first day of class, will need our 38 hour class. If the teenager is 18 and still in school, they can also take this class. Classes are available all year long. Please check for upcoming sessions and available dates in the UPCOMING SESSIONS section. Students MUST get their TIP (Temporary Learner's Permit) prior to the first class.
  • When attending class, students should bring a pen/pencil, a notebook, a light jacket. Students are welcome to bring a lunch or purchase lunch across the street. Snacks and drinks will also be sold.


Road Skills Test:
Age 16

  • Must bring Learner's Permit
  • Applicant must have Learner's Permit a minimum of 180 full days (You may test on the 181st day). Check issue date on Learner's Permit!
  • Primary Parent/Legal Guardian must be present at time of testing to sign required documents
  • Primary Parent/Legal Guardian must present Drivers License/ID to prove identity
  • All Road Skills Tests are completed at Teche Driving Academy, we do not pick up/drop off applicants

Age 17

  • Must bring Learner's Permit
  • Primary Parent/Legal Guardian must be present at time of testing to sign required documents
  • Primary Parent/Legal Guardian must present Drivers License/ID to prove identity
  • All Road Skills Tests are completed at Teche Driving Academy, we do not pick up/drop off applicants

Age 18 and above

  • Must bring Learner's Permit or
  • Must bring Certificate of Completion from an approved Louisiana Driver Education School and Temporary Instruction Permit (TIP card)
  • All Road Skills Tests are completed at Teche Driving Academy, we do not pick up/drop off applicants

The Road Skills Test is designed to assess your ability to perform driving skills safely. Some items that you will be tested on are:

  • Starting/Backing Out
  • Lane Changes
  • Parking
  • Left and right turns
  • Yielding/Stopping Abilities
  • Stop Signs
  • Intersections
  • Attention/Distraction
You must have a passing score of at least 80% to earn the Certificate of Completion for Road Skills Test.

The following conditions or actions are a few of the items that will earn an Automatic failure:

  • Speeding
  • Run a red light
  • Incomplete stop at stop sign
  • Cause an accident that is your fault or cause an incident
  • Not obeying instructions or directives
  • The instructor having to use the Dual Brake during the test or intervene in your driving
